Permaculture Workshop - with Michael Pilarski - A Permaculture Approach to Food Production & Biomass in Agriculture and Gardening. Cost: $ 20 to $30 sliding scale, at the door.
Saturday, Feb 27, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, Human Resource Council Bldg, 316 N 3rd St., Hamilton, NE entrance.
Focus on gardening and small-scale farming (up to 10 acres). Low external inputs. Building soil, water harvesting, irrigation, getting the most production from a small space, vertical gardening, stacking, forest gardens, sun traps, perennial crops, native plants, permaculture design, zonation, rolling permaculture, integrating livestock, hedgerows, etc.. Where to start, stepwise evolution. In the biomass section of the workshop we will consider how to use all kinds of organic matter to improve crop production, soils, and ecosystem functioning. From household compost to shrub prunings, to spoiled hay, to wood chips, to whole tree trunks, stumps, slash piles and forest thinning projects. Small scale to large scale considerations. From wheelbarrows to dump trucks and heavy equipment.. How to sequester our carbon and eat it too. Community Food Project - - We have finished the Planning phase of the project and now have our strategic Plan. We have submitted the 2nd CFP grant proposal to ask for funds to implement the Plan. A Food Policy Council will continue to guide the work. There is an 18 page Cmty Food Assessment Summary on the Food Assessment page of the CFP website.. The Plan is outlined in the Minutes of our final meeting of 4.23.09 (see http://www.bitterrootvalleyfood.info/events.html.

October 24, 2009 - 'Root Food and Climate Action Event - 2nd annual local food dinner, silent food auction, and educational event with speaker Beth Berlin from Climate Solutions, calling for reduction of CO2 emmisions to 350 ppm - re/ the organization www.350.org.

October 3, 2008 - 'Root Food for Sustainability -at the Hamilton City Hall - a local harvest dinner, fundraiser for SLS, silent food auction, and educational event with speaker Bruce Smith speaking on "Why Local Food and What We are Doing About It". The board of SLS prepared the dinner and it was raved about by all.

April 12, 2008 - Co-op Members/Subscribers meeting - at the Corvallis Grange. After the potluck dinner, we elected a new 9 member board of directors and adopted By-laws. This has enabled us to formally incorporate as a Cooperative Association.
